With the release of his new album Place & Time, we are treated once again to Kenneth Paul Cooper’s trademark: songs that engage your mind and relax your soul. Cooper sings, “I love to tell the story and I sure do love to set the scene” and he delivers on that promise.
The seasoned writer and performer uses rich imagery to take us on a journey that begins with the striking Canadian references of Children Of Dreamers and then leads us, as we hear in the final song, Declare My Love, “all around this great big world”. His contemplative lyrics fill the songs with characters, events, and observations that draw us close and invite us to connect. Place and time run through this collection like a thread through a string of pearls.
Place & Time was produced and engineered by Canadian Roots Music icon David Essig who plays a featured instrumental role on the album. Essig and Cooper became friends after sharing the stage and decided in 2017 to create a recording with a “live” feel. The dynamic of Cooper’s vocals and guitar recorded with no overdubs, coupled with Essig’s brilliant ability to capture and enhance the authenticity of each performance, resulted in an album of remarkable warmth and sensitivity.
