Writers On The Stage

IMG_1268“Working with Ken Cooper at the recent Writers on The Stage concert was an absolute joy. Ken is a fine songwriter, singer and guitarist himself, so he really understands and celebrates the nuances of presenting live acoustic music at the wonderful Rivercity Stage in Campbell River, BC. The production values are first-class but never interfere with the artistic values of the concerts Ken produces.

Best of all, Ken has developed an audience base for his concert series that is completely supportive of the artistic experience of sharing words and music in an intimate setting. Plus he’s a heck of a nice guy and a fine artist in his own right. I highly recommend Ken Cooper and the Writers on The Stage Concert series.”          David Essig

A good listening concert is an absolute pleasure and I have enjoyed, for a long time, playing shows with other great writers.  In 2015, I envisioned providing listening concerts with me as host and presenting notable guest writing performers.  There are no ‘negatives’ in the development of this vision because I believe that there is an audience for good writer/performers and I want to facilitate that.  There are already regional venues, across Canada and abroad, to see musicians ply their trade, including numerous bars and lounges offering dance music.  There are quality performances by both cover and original artists presented all the time.  My brainchild was to offer concerts of original work in an intimate listening venue.  I call this series “Writers On The Stage”.

These concerts receive no public funding, and I produce, manage and host each one.  Each concert opens with a short set by me and one or two longer sets by the guest performer(s).  Tickets to each event are $20.00 and I collaborate with local theatre venues.

The series began in Campbell River BC with guests John Gogo, the Blue Sky Miners from Toronto, and Canadian Roots icon David Essig.  The next concert is on February 23rd, 2018 with special guest David Essig and celebrating the release of my new album Place & Time , at the Royal Theatre in Gananoque ON.  In addition, I am offering a song-writing workshop, Writing Lyrics For A Post Authentic World, prior to the concert.
